The film is scheduled to premiere on PBS SoCal in September 2026, with a national public television release planned thereafter through NETA and other public media partners.

At the heart of the film is the remarkable story of Dr. Steffanie Strathdee and her husband, Tom Patterson. After Patterson contracted a deadly antibiotic-resistant infection, Strathdee launched a global search for an experimental treatment that ultimately led to the first successful use of intravenous bacteriophage therapy in the United States. Their extraordinary journey serves as the emotional backbone of the film and a window into a new era of medical innovation.
From there, Data Cure takes viewers inside some of the world’s leading research institutions and biotechnology companies, including Iambic Therapeutics, Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, Caltech, and Cellino.
