NEW YORK – NotYetArt (NYA), in collaboration with Black Brick Project Gallery, officially opened Feel Before Meaning, a contemporary group exhibition in Brooklyn, New York. Running from August 1 through August 7, 2026, the exhibition brings together ten international contemporary artists whose works span painting, photography, installation, moving image, new media, and interdisciplinary practice.
Inspired by Susan Sontag’s influential essay Against Interpretation, Feel Before Meaning invites audiences to reconsider how art is experienced before it is explained. Rather than encouraging immediate interpretation, the exhibition emphasizes perception through light, sound, material, space, atmosphere, movement, and emotion, offering visitors an opportunity to engage with artworks through direct sensory experience.
Organized by NotYetArt, the exhibition reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting emerging contemporary artists while fostering international cultural dialogue through exhibitions and interdisciplinary programming. Bringing together artists from diverse cultural and creative backgrounds, Feel Before Meaning demonstrates how contemporary artistic practices can create shared conversations across geography, medium, and personal experience.
Following an international open call, NotYetArt’s curatorial team reviewed submissions from artists working across multiple countries and disciplines. After a competitive selection process, ten artists were invited to participate in the exhibition:

Together, the selected artists explore themes including perception, memory, identity, materiality, technology, and embodied experience. Through diverse artistic approaches, the exhibition encourages audiences to slow down, engage with their senses, and reconsider the relationship between perception and meaning within contemporary life.
The exhibition officially opened on Saturday, August 1, with a successful Opening Reception attended by artists, curators, collectors, designers, media professionals, and members of New York’s creative community. Throughout the evening, visitors explored the exhibition, met the participating artists, and engaged in conversations surrounding contemporary artistic practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and cross-cultural exchange. The strong attendance and enthusiastic response highlighted the growing interest in experimental contemporary art and reaffirmed New York’s role as an international center for artistic dialogue.
