Abstract highlights reductions in sacral-region hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs), including Stage 2 HAPIs, and in total HAPI incidence following implementation of the company’s Guardian™ System

PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — TurnCare, Inc., a medical device and services company developing innovative, patient-first solutions to elevate the standard of care and optimize outcomes, today announced that new clinical data evaluating outcomes following implementation of its Guardian™ System in patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) were presented at the 37th Annual Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) 2026 Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Guardian System includes a high-precision pressure controller, anatomically designed patient support surfaces for both the bed and chair, and the integrated Information Services (iS) operational insights dashboard, providing unprecedented visibility to real-time therapy compliance to advance patient care and mobility goals.

This single-center retrospective pre- and post-cohort study evaluated hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI) outcomes in ECMO patients before and after implementation of the Guardian™ System. Chris Linke, MHI, RN, CSSMBB, of M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center presented the analysis, which found reductions in sacral-region HAPI incidence, including Stage 2 injuries, and in total HAPI incidence following dynamic perfusion enhancement therapy.

“Pressure injury prevention is particularly challenging for patients on ECMO, where critical illness, prolonged immobility, and the complexity of care make conventional prevention strategies difficult to implement,” said Mr. Linke. “These findings offer an important perspective on the potential role of dynamic perfusion enhancement systems in restoring blood flow as part of a comprehensive strategy to protect vulnerable patients.”

The analysis included a baseline cohort of 317 ECMO patients, with 327 ECMO runs and 2,112 ECMO days. The Guardian cohort included 92 patients, with 97 ECMO runs and 595 ECMO days. After implementing the Guardian System, the center observed favorable improvements across several clinically relevant outcomes, including:

  • 40.8% reduction in sacral-region HAPI incidence, from 14.2 to 8.4 events per 1,000 ECMO days
  • 36.2% reduction in total HAPI incidence, from 55.4 to 35.3 events per 1,000 ECMO days
  • 72.7% reduction in sacral-region Stage 2 HAPIs, with a 45.4% reduction in Stage 2 HAPIs overall
  • ECMO survival increased from 53.2% to 57.8%

“ECMO patients face an extraordinary risk of pressure injury, and the very nature of their care can make traditional prevention strategies difficult,” stated Linda Seaman, MSN, BSN, CCRN, VP of Clinical Affairs at TurnCare. “These results are compelling and underscore the potential of a more dynamic approach to pressure injury prevention that addresses an underlying cause, impaired blood flow. By helping restore blood flow, we have an opportunity to better protect these vulnerable patients. We look forward to building on this clinical evidence and further demonstrating the Guardian System’s impact for ECMO patients.”
